D&D is a role-playing game. Does that mean I have to act or do a silly voice? No. There are many ways to play your character at the table. You can do a voice if you want. You can mime shooting an arrow at that psychotic two-headed giant if it brings you joy. Also, you can narrate your character’s actions in third person using your regular human voice. It’s all role-playing.
Do I have to read the rule books before I play? No. And anyone who tells you that they’ve read – insert official book title here – cover to cover is most certainly lying. Keep an eye on them because they’ll probably try to steal your loot. The truth is this is a game that you learn by playing. I and any experienced players at the table will help you with the basics as we go. If you want to read something for prep, I suggest grabbing the 5e Basic Rules, which are free on the nternet.
